President of Sri Lanka Rugby (SLR) says that SLR was suspended by Asian Rugby due to a gazette issued by former Sports Minister Namal Rajapaksa suspending SLR last year.
The Webb Ellis Cup, the Rugby World Cup trophy is currently on display in Sri Lanka on the 18th, 19th and 22nd of February, for the fist time in the country.
Sri Lanka Rugby had not been invited for this event and when inquired, an official informed that the association was not invited as it was suspended by Asia Rugby in April 2022.
Responding to this, President of SLR Rizly Illyas said that even though Asian Rugby temporarily suspended Sri Lanka Rugby, that does not prevent the association from participating in events related to World Rugby. (NewsWire)
