Minister Namal Rajapaksa called on the Government to allow Sri Lankan migrant workers who are currently being repatriated to be quarantined in hotels obtained free of charge by the Government for the process, or to be permitted to undergo the mandatory quarantine at their residences.
He said the Government must provide relief to the Sri Lankan migrant workers who have lost their employment and are utilising their remaining savings to return to the country.
The Minister made the proposal during a meeting of the Ruling Party held yesterday, following which an intense discussion was held as to why hotels obtained free of charge by the Government were not being used to quarantine repatriated migrant workers.
Minister Namal Rajapaksa further said SriLankan Airlines must provide tickets at a concessionary rate to Sri Lankan migrant workers returning to the country.
Meanwhile, State Minister Arundika Fernando proposed that the migrant workers should be permitted to undergo the mandatory quarantine process at their residences as they have already incurred expenses for their repatriation. (NewsWire)
