National domain .LK : COPE Chairman makes revelation

The ownership of the national domain of Sri Lanka which was managed by the University of Moratuwa is now under a private company, the Chairman of the Committee on Public Enterprises (COPE) Professor Charitha Herath revealed.

Speaking to a local media, Prof. Herath said the information was revealed during investigations into the University of Moratuwa.

“The domain ‘lk’ belongs to Sri Lanka. It was managed by the University of Moratuwa under the purview of the government. This was so until 2004. However, through a systematic move, the management of the domain has been moved outside of the university to a small company that has been established elsewhere. All the state institutions and government-related websites are based on the said domain,” he said.

Professor Herath further said that currently, the domain is owned by someone else and the government has no connection to it. (NewsWire)
