The Foreign Medical Graduates Association today staged a protest near the Presidential Secretariat.
The protesters charged that the Sri Lanka Medical Council (SLMC) has failed to grant approval to practice medicine despite having the required qualifications.
Nearly 1000 foreign medical graduates have been affected by the undue delay in conducting the Examination to Register to Practice Medicine (ERPM), they pointed out.
The Association further said while Peripheral Units and District Hospitals around the country suffer from a dearth of Medical Officers, nearly 1000 fully qualified medical graduates are unable to practice in Sri Lanka due to the Sri Lanka Medical Council failing to conduct the necessary examination for over 15 months.
