New chairman for Petroleum Development Authority

Energy sector expert, Surath Ovitigama has been appointed as the Chairman of the Petroleum Development Authority, Minister of Power and Energy Kanchana Wijesekera announced today (Oct 18).

Taking to ‘X’, Minister Wijesekera said Surath Ovitigama is an energy industry professional with over 20 years of international experience and has worked in the UK, the Norway North Sea oil and gas sector, and in South East Asia. 

Surath Ovitigama served as the Director General of the Petroleum Development Authority from 2020 prior to his new appointment, Minister Wijesekera revealed. 

“He will be tasked with expediting and implementing the development and regulation of Oil and Gas exploration, offshore energy resources, setting up the national policies, roadmap, safety and regulatory framework for the production, use and export of green hydrogen,” the minister added. (NewsWire)
