Rear Admiral Ananda Pieris has been appointed as the new Chairman of “Lak Sathosa” and Venura Gunawardena has been appointed as the Chairman of the Co-operative Wholesale Establishment (CWE), replacing Nushad Perera.
Nushad Perera was appointed as the Chairman of State-owned Lak Sathosa and the CWE in January 2020.
Perera was recently accused of malpractices by Janatha Vimukthi Peramuna Leader MP Anura Kumara Dissanayake in Parliament.
Nushad Perera denied the allegations.
Last week, the media reported that Nushad Perera had been sacked, but issuing a statement on Saturday (26) he said that he resigned from CWE but still remains as the Chairman of ‘Lanka Sathosa’, the supermarket chain operating 416 outlets around the country.
He further said that due to high workload he had resigned from his post as CWE Chairman.
The clarification had come after reports circulated stating that Trade Minister Bandula Gunawardena had removed his from the post of Chairman of Lak Sathosa.
There are unconfirmed reports that Nushad Perera has been appointed as the Chairman of the Sri Lanka Standards Institute (SLSI), which comes under the purview of President Gotabaya Rajapaksa. (NewsWire)
