New COVID protocols for tourists suspended after Health Ministry objection

Sri Lanka Tourism Development Authority has issued a clarification saying implementing the COVID-19 protocols and procedures issued yesterday has been deferred until 20th January.

Sri Lanka Health Ministry said today that only only the Director General of Health Services at the Ministry of Health is vested with the powers to issue COVID-19 protocols and procedures.

“The relevant protocols issued for all inbound tourists by Sri Lanka Tourism Development Authority yesterday, are void” Director General of Health Services said.

Health Minister Keheliya Rambukwella said that any statement pertinent to Covid19 in Sri Lanka will either be made from the Health Ministry or Presidential Secretariat.

“Sri Lanka entry status quo remains UNCHANGED despite news alerts in the past 12h. Health Ministry is in real-time discussion with World Health Organisation. Any statement pertinent to #Covid19SL will either be made from the Health Min or Presidential Sec. Urge all media institutions to adhere to this protocol” Minister Keheliya Rambukwella tweeted.

Issuing a clarification, Sri Lanka Tourism Development Authority said that a detailed guideline will be issued next week after discussing with relevant authorities. (NewsWire)
