The newly introduced National Identity Card (NIC) Curfew system will only be in effect in districts where the Police curfew is relaxed and not during curfew hours, DIG Ajith Rohana told The NewsWire.
The islandwide Police curfew will be relaxed for the Colombo, Gampaha, Kalutara and Puttalam districts, identified as high risk areas, at 5.00 am on 4th May, while the curfew will be relaxed for other Districts at 5.00 am on Tuesday 28 April.
“That restrictions for curfew where use of the ID cards is utilized is only in effect from the 4th of May for people living in high risk areas like Colombo if the curfew is relaxed. From 28th of April, it is in effect for people living outside the high risk areas.” DIG Ajith Rohana said.
He also said this system will not affect those who travel for employment.
General public will be allowed to go outside to make essential purchases and to attend to vital activities based on the last digit of their National Identity Card (NIC) numbers.
Accordingly, those who possess NICs ending with the numbers one (1) or two (2) could go out to attend to their essential requirements on Mondays.
People with NIC numbers ending with three and four will be allowed to go out on Tuesdays, those with NIC numbers ending with five and six on Wednesdays, those with NIC numbers ending with seven and eight on Thursdays while those with NIC numbers ending with nine and zero would be allowed to go out on Fridays.
