New sticker system introduced for Vehicles entering Colombo

The Police have introduced a new sticker system to monitor vehicles entering Colombo during the islandwide travel restriction that has been imposed in the country.

Only essential services have been permitted to operate during this period with employees requested to provide their NIC, office ID or document from the employer as a travel permit.

Police Spokesman DIG Ajith Rohana said however, an unusual traffic congestion has been reported at various entry points to Colombo, with many claiming to be employees of essential services.

He said therefore, the Police have introduced a sticker system, where stickers valid for the day will be pasted on vehicles entering Colombo, especially through Gampaha, Wattala, Nugegoda, Mount Lavinia, and Panadura.

The sticker will be pasted on the vehicle at one entry point, after which the vehicle can continue without further inspections within Colombo.

This system has been introduced to prevent officials from inspecting the same vehicle multiple times, but in the event of a requirement a vehicle that has already obtained a sticker will be inspected by officials within Colombo, DIG Ajith Rohana said.

The Police Spokesman said a new sticker will be issued tomorrow which will also be valid for the day.

He further requested the public to cooperate with the officials at roadblocks by complying with the regulations and by providing valid documents of employment. (NewsWire)
