Finance Ministry in a statement says that a new levy was NOT imposed on several food items including Sprats, Dried Fish and Salt as reported by some media institutions.
Several media institutions had reported that Minister of Finance Basil Rajapaksa has imposed a levy on several commodities through a gazette notification.
Finance Ministry said the gazette notification issued last night only extends the validity period of the existing special commodity levy which had been imposed previously. (NewsWire)
