“No option other than getting involved in prostitution to collect money to return home” SL worker makes emotional plea urging repatriation

Sri Lankan expatriate workers stranded in the Middle-East have urged the government to take immediate measures to repatriate them to Sri Lanka.

Videos shared by several workers, currently circulating on Social media, highlighting workers’ inability to afford the “huge amount” of money charged to return to Sri Lanka.
In the video shared below, a Sri Lankan housemaid in Oman makes an emotional plea saying how some of them have no option other than getting involved in prostitution to earn the money necessary to return to Sri Lanka.

Government officials last week said that it expects to repatriate nearly 2500 Sri Lankans who were stranded overseas due to the coronavirus pandemic, from today until 09 January 2021.

Officials further said in December alone, 11,323 Sri Lankans were repatriated and by the end of December. (NewsWire)
