The Sri Lanka Podujana Peramuna (SLPP) has decided not to contest in 3 popular areas in the upcoming local government elections.
It is reported that the SLPP has not filed nominations for Colombo Municipal Council, Dehiwala-Mount Lavinia Municipal Council and Kolonnawa Urban Council, even though the party had submitted deposits for these 3 local councils.
Sources say that the SLPP has decided to support the UNP in these key areas and therefore withdrawn from contesting as a party.
Local Government Election in Sri Lanka is scheduled to be held on 9th March while accepting nominations ended at 12:00 pm on Saturday (21) (NewsWire)
