The Department of Immigration and Emigration has decided to increase the number of passports issued per day under the one-day service programme from today.
The department was issuing close to 2000 passports per day but has now decided to increase it to 3500 passports per day.
Thereby, the employees of the Department of Immigration and Emigration under the one-day service programme have been divided into two shifts.
They will be working under the new shifts from 07.00 am to 02.00 pm, and 02.00 pm to 10.00 pm.
Officers from the One-day Service department who had been transferred to different departments have been reemployed for a period of three months under temporary contracts.
Department officials said around 36,000 passports had been issued in the first ten days of June alone.
A total of 52,278 passports were obtained in January this year, while 55,381 were obtained in February, 74,890 in March, 53,151 in April, and 52,945 in May.
