The officer-in-charge (OIC) of the Crimes Unit of the Wanduramba Police Station has been arrested over allegations of extortion.
Police Spokesman SSP Nihal Thalduwa said the officer had been arrested by a team of officers from the Nagoda Police yesterday.
He has been accused of extorting nearly Rs. 1 million from an individual in Padukka.
SSP Thalduwa said the officer, along with another individual, had planned to negotiate the sale of a vehicle involving the man from Padukka.
The officer and the individual had attempted to extort Rs. 1 million from the victim via the vehicle sale, the Police Spokesman added. (NewsWire)
