Opposition Leader proposes to abolish the Executive Presidency within this week

Opposition Leader MP Sajith Premadasa today called on all Parliamentarians to unite to abolish the Executive Presidency within the week.

Addressing Parliament today, MP Premadasa told Parliament to take immediate steps to call for a vote and abolish the Executive Presidency.

“We can bring in a system to abolish the Executive Presidency within this week, but not allow an Executive PM either. We need checks and balances,” the MP said.

The Parliamentarian further said his Samagi Jana Balawegaya (SJB) will not accept temporary and opportunistic ministerial portfolios.

“If we come to power, it will be with the blessings of the people,” he added.

MP Sajith Premadasa said there should be no voice in Parliament, apart from the voice heard from the streets.

“The people want a change in government and the Parliament must understand it,” he emphasized. (NewsWire)
