At least 105 health workers at the Colombo National Hospital have contracted the coronavirus.
Health Union Leader H. Medawatte said that a large number of the health staff are currently infected.
“We are in a situation where we cannot operate wards or any other services. The remaining staff is working continuously to carry out the necessary health services,” he said.
Stating that the staff is holding together the system with great difficulty, he warned that, however, the system will crumble in a few days.
Medawatte said many nurses have been continuously working for over 2-3 months, while they have not seen their parents or children during this period.
He emphasized that it was essential to provide a third Covid vaccination for these health workers to further increase their immunity. (NewsWire)
