A total of 606 deaths due to COVID-19 have been reported during the third wave of the coronavirus currently spreading in Sri Lanka.
This includes the 32 deaths due to COVID-19 announced by the Health Ministry yesterday (23).
According to data, 13 deaths due to COVID-19 were reported during the first wave of the virus, while a total of 1,197 deaths have been reported during the second and third waves of the virus, taking the total death toll to 1,210.
The National Operations Centre for the Prevention of COVID-19 (NOCPC) said 567 of the deaths are of those above the age of 70.
It said 321 deaths are between the ages of 61- 70 and 171 are of those between the ages of 51- 60.
The NOCPC said that 87 deaths due to the virus have been reported between the ages of 41- 50, while nearly 34 deaths have been reported between the ages of 31-40.
It added that 15 people between the ages of 10-30 have died due to COVID-19, while two people below the age of nine are also reported to have died due to the virus. (NewsWire)
