An assistant health worker attached to the Intensive Care Unit of the Cardiology Unit of the Colombo National Hospital has been arrested for his involvement in an oxygen cylinder racket.
The health worker is accused of stealing and selling the oxygen cylinders allocated for the Cardiology Unit of the hospital.
A health worker at the hospital had filed a complaint claiming that two oxygen cylinders that were stored at Ward 23 were missing, following which an investigation had been launched.
The suspect had thereafter been arrested within the hospital premises while in possession of the stolen oxygen cylinders.
The Police said further interrogations of the suspect had led to the identification of another assistant health worker who was also involved in the racket.
A nurse attached to the Out Patient Unit (OPD) of the hospital has also filed a complaint over another missing oxygen cylinder from the Unit. (NewsWire)
