Government Ministers were questioned by reporters today about former Minister Nirupama Rajapaksa being named in the recently leaked Pandora Papers.
Minister of Energy Udaya Gammanpila addressing a media briefing held today, said that the Commission to Investigate Allegations of Bribery and Corruption must investigate the assets of a politician if their name is mentioned in the document.
He said that he has heard that there is a retired politician from a business family among those named in the Pandora Papers.
Also commenting on the Pandora Papers, Minister of Ports and Shipping Rohitha Abeygunawardana stated that action will be taken against anyone in Sri Lanka who has been identified as having earned money through illegal means.
Responding to former Minsiter Nirupama Rajapaksa being named in the documents, Minister Abeygunawardana said he cannot state how the Government can intervene in the matter, as it is a personal issue.
He further said there are laws pertaining to those who earn money via illegal means, and the Government will take action inline with the laws, irrespective of the status of the person involved.
