Despite the hardship the people in Ulaanbaatar’s Ger areas are going through, including the difficulty of planting trees and vegetables in their backyards due to the inadequate water supply and infrastructure; however, some people have recently begun to improve their living conditions by planting vegetables and fruits without the need to wait for government support, they started to grow pears, which usually grow in hot and humid climates. Those areas have more than 70 types of trees and 10 types of other fruits and vegetables.

“I like pears very much. One of the most delicious fruits I ate as a child was a pear. As children, we only ate pears, apples, and tangerines on New Year’s Eve. Other fruits were rare. The sweet aroma and juicy taste of pears are very vivid in my childhood. That’s why I always wanted to plant pears. The first pear tree was imported from Russia in 2011. After planting the tree, I waited for 5 years for it to bear fruit. I didn’t know if the pears would grow or not. In 2016, our first pears grew. He was very happy and posted a picture of pear on his social media page with the caption, “I never dreamed I would eat a pear planted in my yard.” But when people saw him, I was very encouraged. Do pears grow in Mongolia? I was surprised and happy as if I had never heard of pears growing in Mongolia. I was very inspired by this, I tried to take more care of my trees and plant many other kinds of trees. Only 3 pear trees were planted. 3 candles grew successfully. This is a great achievement. This is because when 5 trees are planted, 2 grow and 3 do not grow because the climate in our country is harsh and very dry. Fruits that grow in humid and warm climates are very difficult to grow in our country. That’s why it’s amazing that the three trees I planted grow so well. So I became a non-professional, but for the first time in Mongolia, I grew pears”
“We lived here for 65 years. My parents started living here as a family. I was born and raised here. The government gives 0.7 hectares of land to every Mongolian. I live well in this place. I am a lawyer, but I run a medical company. I teach many people how to be healthy and live a good life, and I try to set an example for myself. So I live by the principle, “Make your place a paradise, and don’t look for happiness in others.” Therefore, everyone is trying to show that it is possible to plant trees and fruits in the 0.7-hectare area provided by the government and improve their living environment. It has been 13 years since the tree was first planted in 2008. You’ve just seen some of our trees grow up to 20 meters. Many people ask me for advice on how to grow and care for pears. I’m so happy to be able to influence thousands of people”
