Pictures : Public visit ruins of village in Moragahakanda Reservoir

The ruins of a village in the drought-stricken Moragahakanda reservoir in the Matale District have been visited by the public and former residents of the submerged village.

Sri Lankan photographer Thilina Kaluthotage captured the ruins during his visit to the reservoir on Saturday (Sep 02).

Among the ruins of the village are houses, schools, shops and religious places.

Despite heavy rainfall in several parts of Sri Lanka, there has been less rainfall in some areas, including Moragahakanda, resulting in the emergence of ruins in reservoirs.

Several villages had been submerged after the waters of the reservoir had been filled up with the villagers resettling elsewhere.

A few residents of the submerged villages are reportedly currently living 30 kilometres away from the ruins. (NewsWire)
