PM inaugurates projects to construct 05 flyovers & New Kelani Bridge to Athurugiriya expressway

The construction of five new flyovers and a four- lane elevated expressway from New Kelani Bridge to Athurugiriya was inaugurated by Prime Minister Mahinda Rajapaksa today.

The projects were launched at Temple Trees with a small group of invited guests, using technology while adhering to health regulations.

Five new flyovers and a four- lane elevated expressway from New Kelani Bridge to Athurugiriya will be constructed to ease heavy traffic congestion in Colombo and Kandy.

Flyovers will be constructed at the Kohuwala junction and Getambe Junction while two overhead bridges will be built near the Slave Island Railway Station on Justice Akbar Mawatha and Uttarananda Mawatha.

A flyover will be constructed across Beira Lake and Slave Island to the Bala Dhaksha Mawatha and another connecting Chittampalam A. Gardiner Mawatha.

The project which was awarded to the China Harbour Engineering Company by the Cabinet of Ministers is expected to be completed in 36 months. (NewsWire)
