PM invites Iran to invest in Sri Lanka

There is immense potential for Iranian investments in the energy sector in Sri Lanka, Ambassador of Iran Hashem Ashjazadeh said yesterday.

The Iranian Ambassador made the observation during a meeting with Prime Minister Dinesh Gunawardena.

The Prime Minister briefed him on the steps taken to restructure the energy sector and attract foreign investor participation.

Prime Minister Gunawardena said Iran has the opportunities now to invest in new sectors such as agriculture and industrial sectors in addition to the energy sector.

In response, Iran’s Ambassador said his country will donate a stock of medicine and medical equipment to Sri Lanka later this month.

The Prime Minister thanked Iran for the support and assistance provided to Sri Lanka for the development work as well as to help early recovery from current economic problems.

Chief of Economic & Consular Section of the Iran Embassy K Soheil and Additional Secretary to the Prime Minister Harsha Wijewardane were also present during the meeting. (NewsWire)
