Police Curfew imposed to Western Province

A Police curfew has been imposed on the Western Province with immediate effect.

The Police Media Spokesperson said that the Police curfew will be in effect until further notice.

Earlier, a Police curfew was imposed on the Colombo South, North, and Central Police areas.

The curfew in the Western province has been imposed following unrest between government supporters and anti-government protesters today.

The unrest broke out after Sri Lanka Podujana Peramuna (SLPP) supporters attacked anti-government protesters and destroyed both the “‘Maina Go Gama’ protest site in front of the Temple Trees and the ‘Gota Go Gama’ protest site at the Galle Face Green in Colombo.

The SLPP supporters engaged in the act following a meeting with Prime Minister Mahinda Rajapaksa at the Temple Trees in Colombo this morning.

Nearly 23 people who were injured in the clashes have been admitted to the National Hospital in Colombo. (NewsWire)
