Police in civil attire will be deployed at supermarkets and shopping complexes today.
Police Spokesman DIG Ajith Rohana said the officers will observe if the health guidelines on COVID-19 are being adhered to by the management and customers.
He said reports have been received that the public had failed to follow the guidelines after the islandwide travel restriction had been lifted on Monday.
Special surveillance operations will also be conducted to observe if the public are engaging in indoor and outdoor activities that are prohibited under the health guidelines.
DIG Ajith Rohana said spas, pubs, betting centres, cinemas, and indoor and outdoor activities, including parties have been banned under the guidelines.
All area Police stations have been instructed to conduct raids in this regard, he said.
Special inspections will also be conducted on public transportations today, which are in operation for employees of essential services.
The Police spokesman said it is the responsibility of the driver, conductor, and assistants of public transport vehicles to ensure that the passengers are adhering to the guidelines. (NewsWire)
