A 17 year old monk from a temple in Rumassala mountain has died last night inside the temple.
After another monk had spotted the deceased monk collapsed inside his room, he has been taken to the Karapitiya Teaching Hospital.
Hospital sources said that the monk had already passed away at the time of admission to the hospital.
The exact cause of death is yet to be determined and the Habaraduwa police are conducting further investigations.
Earlier this month, the death of Dutch monk Ven. Olandaye Janavamsa Thera caused much speculation in media.
Ven. Trikunamale Ananda Maha Thero, chief prelate of the Siri Vajiraramaya, issuing a statement, criticized certain local media for reporting the cause of death as murder while initial findings from the postmortem indicated that the death could be an act of suicide.
Police said that 52 people have been questioned over the death so far. (NewsWire)
