Police lifeguards save teenagers

Officials of the Sri Lanka Police Lifeguard Unit rescued two teenagers from drowning off the coast of Wellawatte on Saturday (May 06).

The Police stated that two children from the same family had been swept away by the current while bathing on the Wellawatte beach. 

Officials of the Sri Lanka Police Lifeguard Unit had rescued the two children after which they had been transferred to the Colombo South Teaching Hospital in Kalubowila. 

The rescued children are aged 17 and 15 years and are residents of Maligawatte. 

The Police have requested parents to be vigilant while allowing children to bathe in the sea, adding that the victims of a number of drownings reported across the country are most often children. (NewsWire)
