A Police investigation has been launched into the hijacking of a car along with a passenger near a bank in Karapitiya.
According to the Daily News, the car had been hijacked with a female passenger. The incident had occurred when the victim’s sister who had driven the car had left the engine on and had stepped out to withdraw money from the bank.
A man, who had then gotten into the driver’s seat, is reported to have manhandled the female passenger, later driving off with the vehicle.
The victim’s phone is reported to have fallen out of the vehicle while she had attempted to jump out of the car. The suspect is said to have pulled her by her hair and forced her to the floor of the vehicle, while he drove off.
The suspect had eventually stopped the car at Ovakanda in Rathgama, after which he had robbed the victim of her bangles and Rs.150,000 that had been kept inside her hand bag. He had thereafter fled after handing over the remote device of the car.
The Police had later found the car dumped near the Boossa Timber Corporation after the victim had managed to arrive home and file a complaint on the incident.
The victim has been identified as a 26-year-old woman from Akmeemana currently studying medicine at a Russian university. (NewsWire)
