Police officer investigated for allegedly selling seized drugs

The Criminal Investigations Department (CID) has commenced an inquiry into an officer attached to the Police Narcotic Bureau (PNB) over the alleged involvement in drug racketeering.

Police Spokesman SSP Jaliya Senaratne told Newswire that no officers from the PNB have been detained as yet by the CID.

Meanwhile, the Divaina newspaper recently reported that the CID had commenced an investigation into a group of officers from the PNB who had sold 100 kg of drugs from the large haul of narcotics worth over Rs. 100 million that were under the custody of the PNB to drug lords operating from Dubai.

The National Intelligence Unit too had commenced an investigation in this regard, the report said.

The large haul of drugs that were seized by a team from the PNB during a raid in the Southern Province had been allegedly sold by another group of officers attached to the Police Narcotic Bureau.
