Police OIC swallows currency notes to prevent arrest by bribery officials

The Officer-in-Charge (OIC) of the minor offence unit at the Weliveriya Police has been hospitalized after swallowing currency notes he had obtained as a bribe, Aruna Newspaper reported.

The OIC is reported to have solicited a bribe of Rs. 10,000 and had been caught in the act of obtaining the money by Officials from the Commission to Investigate Allegations of Bribery or Corruption yesterday (29).

Thereafter, he had swallowed the two Rs. 5000 rupee notes in the presence of the Bribery Commission officials to avoid being arrested.

The Bribery Commission presented facts to the Court in this regard and had admitted the OIC to the Gampaha Hospital.

The OIC is said to have solicited the bribe over a vehicle dispute. (NewsWire)
