Police have begun an investigations to arrest former JVP provincial councilor Samatha Vidyaratna and convener of the All Ceylon Farmer’s Federation Namal Karunaratna, over conducting a protest allegedly violating health regulations.
Earlier, 5 people were arrested for organizing the protest in Boralanda area in Bandarawela, over fertilizer issue faced by farmers. They were produced to Welimada magistrate today (3) and later released on bail of Rs.100,000 each.
However, The police have informed the courts to issue notices to arrest an additional 5 persons including Samantha Vidyaratna and Namal Karunaratna, as they too were involved in organizing the protest which violated quarantine laws.
Responding to the request, The magistrate has informed that if they have violated quarantine law, to take necessary steps to arrest them and produce before courts.
Accordingly, a senior police officer attached to the Bogahakumbura Police station has informed Derana that investigations have begun to arrest those 5 persons. (NewsWire)
