Police to take action against 59 social media groups : Issues warning to SM users

The Sri Lanka Police has warned of legal action against those using social media platforms to cause unrest in the country. 

Issuing a statement, the Police said 59 social media groups and their admins have been identified in connection with having incited violence during the unrest.

The Police said that the groups had gathered people via groups operated on various social media platforms to carry out attacks on houses, vehicles, and other properties. 

Stating that the social media groups and the admins have been identified, the Police said legal action has already been initiated in this regard. 

The Sri Lanka Police also warned the public that legal action will be filed if they are found to have incited violence through social media during the unrest that broke out across the country on Monday. (NewsWire)
