The Colombo Crime Division has uncovered information about an organized gang who steal cars hired from taxi services and dismantles them.
Accordingly, three suspects involved in the racket were arrested by the CCD
Investigations were commenced following a complaint received in August last year where two persons have threatened the driver of a taxi by giving him something to intoxicate and threatening him with a firearm.
It was revealed that the two suspects had hired the car from a taxi service in Kadawatha area. They had given a bottle of milk bought from a supermarket in the area to the driver, adding some substance to make him intoxicated.
A series of related CCTV footage was also released to the media regarding the incident.
During the questioning of the suspects, it was revealed that the car in question was given to a place do be disassembled for an amount of Rs. 600,000.
