Power failures could occur in several parts of the country today, the Ceylon Electricity Board (CEB) has announced.
The CEB said the power disruptions could take place due to a malfunction of a turbine at the Norochcholai Coal Power Plant.
CEB said as the power generation at the Norochcholai Power Plant has not reached its full capacity as yet, power disruptions may take place in certain areas.
Media spokesman to the CEB, Sulakshana Jayawardena said that measures are underway to generate and add 900 MW of power to the national grid.
He further said the maintenance work is also continuing at present to address the existing issues faced by the breakdown of the generators at the power plant earlier this month.
Sulakshana Jayawardena added that thereby, power disruption of 30 -45 minutes may take place in certain areas today.
Sri Lanka faced an islandwide power outage for several hours on 3rd December after a breakdown of three generators at the Norochcholai Coal Power Plant.
Power was restored to several areas, but scheduled power cuts between ½ hour to one hour between 06-09 pm took place for a few days until the generators were fully restored. (NewsWire)
