Power outage : CEB refutes statement by PUCSL

The Ceylon Electricity Board (CEB) has refuted reports claiming that it has accepted responsibility for the islandwide power outage experienced in Sri Lanka earlier this month.

Earlier today, it was reported that a statement by the Chairman of the Public Utilities Commission of Sri Lanka (PUCSL) revealed that the CEB had accepted it was at fault for the recent nationwide power failure.

However, refuting the statement, the CEB said that the alleged statement made by the PUCSL Chairman was false.

The CEB further said its Internal and External Investigation Committees are yet to submit their reports with findings on the island-wide power failure.

Sri Lanka faced an islandwide power outage for several hours on the evening of December 09, after which the power supply was restored in stages.

Initially, it was assumed that the all-island power outage was caused by a fault on the line running from Kotmale to Biyagama.

The Minister of Power and Energy Kanchana Wijesekera also recently announced that an investigation was ongoing to ascertain the cause of the islandwide power failure. (NewsWire)
