President Gotabaya Rajapaksa has agreed to incorporate Tamil representatives in the Presidential Task Force on ‘One country, One Law’, the Vice President of the Ceylon Workers Congress (CWC) Senthil Thondaman said.
Thondaman told NewsWire that he along with Fisheries Minister Douglas Devananda had raised concerns over the non-inclusion of Tamil representatives in the Task Force.
They had pointed out that such an action goes against the concept of ‘One country, One Law’ and hence should be rectified.
Senthil Thondaman further said that the President had agreed to their request and had promised to expand the Presidential Task Force on ‘One country, One Law’.
Thondaman said he expects at least five Tamil representatives to be included in the Task Force which consists of 13 members, including 9 Sinhalese and 4 Muslim representatives.
The matter was discussed last evening (28) at a meeting held at Temple Trees chaired by the President with the participation of Prime Minister Mahinda Rajapaksa and other party leaders in the Government.
President Gotabaya Rajapaksa had appointed the 13-member Presidential Task Force on ‘One country, One Law’ on Wednesday (27).
Announcing the Task Force, he further revealed that it will be headed by Ven. Galagoda Aththe Gnanasara Thera of the Bodu Bala Sena organization.
The Task Force has been vested with studying the implementation of the concept; One Country, One Law within Sri Lanka.
It has also been tasked with preparing a draft Act, studying Acts and amendments that have already been compiled by the Ministry of Justice, and determining if there are suitable amendments, and submitting proposals as deemed appropriate. (NewsWire)
