President Gotabaya Rajapaksa has met UN Secretary-General Antonio Guterres at the United Nations (UN) Headquarters in New York, USA yesterday (19).
The President’s Media Division (PMD) said the Secretary-General has assured the UN’s fullest positive cooperation to Sri Lanka.
President Gotabaya Rajapaksa is currently in the USA to attend the 76th regular session of the United Nations General Assembly (UNGA).
Issuing a statement, the UN said the Secretary-General expressed solidarity with Sri Lanka for ongoing challenges related to COVID-19.
President Rajapaksa had briefed the Secretary-General on domestic issues, including the reconciliation process.
The UN added that Secretary-General Antonio Guterres had offered the UN’s support in this regard.
The statement said Guterres had also reiterated the UN’s view on the importance of ensuring the protection of minority rights and civic engagement. (NewsWire)
