The islandwide quarantine curfew that is currently in effect in Sri Lanka has been further extended till 04 am on the 1st of October 2021.
The decision was taken during the National Covid Task Force meeting held under the aegis of President Gotabaya Rajapaksa today.
Health Minister Keheliya Rambukwella said the lockdown will be extended and will operate under certain conditions.
He said the conditions that will be implemented during the lockdown will be announced soon.
Minister Rambukwella added that, however, Government essential services impacting the economy will be permitted to operate during the lockdown.
The islandwide lockdown was imposed on 20th August due to the rapid spread of the Delta variant of the coronavirus.
Earlier, the Government twice extended the curfew to cover a period of four weeks as requested by health authorities.
The Lockdown now enters its fifth week with the latest extension. (NewsWire)
