Venerable Athuraliye Rathana Thero has been appointed as the National List MP for the “Our People’s Power Party (OPPP) “.
The National Election Commission announced that Ven. Rathana Thero who is the Leader of the party was approved under the newly established Election Commission.
The OPPP fell into a crisis after winning one National List seat in the General Elections held in August.
Members of the Party after much deliberation had reached a common consensus to appoint Venerable Gnanasara Thero via the National List.
However, the OPPP’s General Secretary Venerable Vadinagala Wimalatissa Thero was reported missing prior to the day to submit the nomination to the National Election Commission.
The Bodu Bala Sena (BBS) at the time accused several Government Ministers of concealing the party’s General Secretary Venerable Wimalatissa Thero. (NewsWire)
