Update : Chief Engineer of the Western Province RDA Udugampola Office who was arrested over an assault on a female employee, granted bail by Gampaha Magistrates court
A Road Development Authority (RDA) official has been arrested for assaulting a female employee, Parliament was informed today.
State Minister of Rural Roads and other Infrastructure, Nimal Lanza said that the officer is the Chief Engineer attached to the Udugampola Engineers Office of the Western Province Road Development Authority (RDA).
Lanza said that the officer has been suspended over the incident.
Video footage showing the official physically assaulting a female employee was widely circulated on social media yesterday.
The video shows the woman accusing the Official of work place harassment.
Social media users have condemned the Official and had called on authorities to launch an investigation into the incident. (NewsWire)
