#RepealPTA mobile signature campaign reaches Colombo

The mobile signature campaign calling for the Prevention of Terrorism Act (PTA) to be repealed reached the Galle Face Green in Colombo today.

Opposition MPs Eran Wickramaratne, M. A. Sumanthiran, and Shanakiyan Rasamanickam, former MP Hirunika Premachandra, and actress Damitha Abeyratne were seen at the #RepealPTA mobile signature campaign in Colombo.

Addressing the media, MP Hirunika Premachandra said the PTA is being used to suppress the public who stepped onto the streets to protest.

“Those who participated in the protests are being called ‘fascists’ and the President is using the PTA to intimidate and suppress the youth of the nation who called for a system change,” she said.

Hirunika Premachandra added that those who stepped out for the benefit of the nation are now being rounded up under the PTA.

The campaign which was launched in Kankesanthurai in Jaffna will travel across Sri Lanka before ending in Hambantota on the 5th of October. (NewsWire)
