Government Parliamentarians have demanded an inquiry against a local newspaper on a report pertaining to the estimates of the houses of MPs that were attacked during the public unrest in Sri Lanka.
The report said that the MPs had provided high estimates for compensation for their houses that had been damaged.
Raising the matter in Parliament today, MP Samanpriya Herath said the local newspaper has claimed that government MPs have quoted double the rate as their estimates.
He further said that some media outlets had also referred to them as wretched politicians.
MP Samanpriya Herath requested the media not to report false news and further provoke the public.
Meanwhile, Chief Government Whip Minister Prasanna Ranatunga requested the Speaker to conduct an inquiry into the newspaper reports.
Addressing the Parliament, he requested the matter to be submitted to the Parliamentary Privileges Committee for an investigation to be conducted. (NewsWire)
