The Fort Magistrate’s Court has ordered former Minister Rishad Bathiudeen to appear before the Criminal Investigations Department (CID) on Monday (27).
The former parliamentarian was summoned before the CID at 09.00 am to record a statement on the Easter Sunday terror attacks that took place on 21 April 2019.
The summons was issued after a request was put forward by the CID to the Fort Magistrate’s Court in this regard today.
The Court order has been issued at a time when the National Election Commission had requested Acting Inspector General of Police (IGP) C. D. Wickremeratne to postpone inquiries relating to cases involving Rishad Bathiudeen until the conclusion of the 05 August General Election.
In a letter to the Acting IGP, Chairman of the Commission Mahinda Deshapriya pointed out that it was unanimously agreed during the last party leader’s meeting to postpone inquiries into cases pertaining to the politician. (Newswire)
