The Government has decided to pay an allowance to a selected group of the public affected due to the coronavirus pandemic.
State Minister Shehan Semasinghe said the Government will pay an allowance of Rs. 5000 from the 02nd of June.
He said the allowance will be paid to Samurdhi recipients, those who are already receiving Government allowances, low income earners, and those who have lost their incomes due to the COVID- 19 pandemic.
Sri Lanka is currently battling the third wave of the coronavirus, after the emergence of the New Year coronavirus cluster in April.
An islandwide travel restriction has also been imposed in the country from the 21st of May to the 7th of June.
A number of people in the country have been severely affected as a result of the travel restrictions imposed due to the pandemic. (NewsWire)
