A member of the Sri Lanka Army rugby team has died due to a sudden heart attack during training yesterday.
According to Sri Lanka Army, the frontline player of the rugby team had complained of a chest pain while training last morning. He had, however, died after being admitted to the hospital.
Sri Lanka Army spokesman said the death was not related to COVID-19.
The deceased has been identified as 33-year-old Gayan Shanaka, who had entered the sport from Veluwana College, Colombo and represented the Gajaba Regiment in the Army Rugby team.
Gayan, who has played for the Sri Lanka Army for more than four years, has reportedly played in all of Sri Lanka’s Premier League rugby tournaments. (NewsWire)
