Sajith donates solar-powered light system to Kumana National Park

The Government has embarked on a project to build jogging tracks targeting the country’s tanks, and at this catastrophic moment, it is by no means an urgent matter that should be given national priority and there are many priorities that need to be addressed instead, Opposition leader Sajith Premadasa said today.

MP Sajith Premadasa yesterday (27) donated a solar-powered solar off-grid light system worth Rs. 240,500.00 which remained essential to light joint official quarters in the Kumana National Park.

The donation was made using funds raised through the Green Environmental Conservation Program and the Project Leopard.

The Leader of the Opposition said that everyone has a responsibility to conserve the ecosystem and protect wildlife.

He said the Department of Wildlife Conservation is trying to do a lot of work with the limited resources available, and that officers are making a big commitment although no one appreciates it.

He said that today the human-elephant conflict has escalated and in the event of a death in such a conflict, enormous sacrifices have to be made to obtain due compensations.

The Leader of the Opposition also stressed that sometimes, they have to spend an amount of money larger than the compensation to actually receive it. (NewsWire)
