Scheduled Russian flight with tourists suspended. “Airport will be not fully opened”

Russia’s national airline Aeroflot has informed Sri Lanka that its scheduled flight to Sri Lanka with 300 Russian tourists has been suspended.

The Airport & Aviation services of Sri Lanka said the flight has been suspended until 31, December.

Meanwhile, Head of the COVID-19 Task Force Army Commander Lt. Gen. Shavendra Silva said the Government has not decided to completely reopen airports as yet.

According to the Sunday Morning, the Army Commander said the recommencement of airport operation was a pilot project.

He further said this would serve as a precursor to the reopening of airports in the future.

Under the pilot project, tourists are to be brought under a travel bubble and will be accommodated at several hotels assigned by the Health Ministry.

Lt. Gen. Shavendra Silva said tourists arriving in Sri Lanka during this period will require to undergo PCR tests prior to their arrival and will be subjected to another PCR test after arrival.

Based on the test results the tourists will be taken to several identified tourist attractions in the country in a travel bubble after seven days.

The Army Commander said a final decision on the complete reopening of airports would only be taken after studying the pilot project after 19 January. (NewsWire)
