The Mahabage Police have commenced a search operation to apprehend a Covid patient who had escaped from the National Hospital for Respiratory Diseases in Welisara.
The Police said the 43-year-old male patient had escaped from the chest hospital last afternoon.
The man had tested positive for COVID-19 while receiving treatment at the hospital.
The Police said the patient who is a resident of Grandpass had reportedly provided a false address in Maradana, while investigations have revealed he is addicted to liquor.
Police Spokesman DIG Ajith Rohana has warned that legal action will be taken against those providing false addresses to health authorities engaged in Covid –related activities.
He further said a total of six coronavirus patients have attempted to escape from hospitals to date, but all have been nabbed and are reported to be addicted to various drugs. (NewsWire)
