Several opposition MPs are likely to support the 20th amendment when it’s taken up for vote today, a Senior Goverment Minister told NewsWire.
The Goverment needs the support of 150 MPs to pass the 20th Amendment. SLPP along with its coalition partners have 149 seats in the Parliament without the speaker who will not be allowed to vote.
There are reports that Govt MPs Wijedasa Rajapaksa and Former President Maithripala Sirisena might abstain from voting for the 20th Amendment.
MP Wijedasa Rajapaksa severely criticised the 20th Amendment sending several letters to President Gotabaya Rajapaksa opposing it.
“We are also hearing that few of our MPs specially those who represent minority partiesĀ might vote in favour of the 20th amendment. Let’s see, They have been offered various things” Senior SJB MP told NewsWire.
