The Samagi Jana Balawegaya (SJB) has pledged to appoint Ranjan Ramanayake as a Member of Parliament when the opportunity arises, party leader MP Sajith Premadasa said today.
In a Twitter message, the Opposition leader said the SJB has agreed to provide the appointment via the national list when a vacancy occurs.
“We the @sjbsrilanka wholeheartedly pledge to appoint @ramanayaker to the parliament in the first instance of an occurrence of a vacancy in the national list,” MP Premadasa Tweeted.
SJB MPs Ranjith Madduma Bandara, Tissa Attanayake, Harin Fernando, Imthiaz Bakeer Marker, Eran Wickremaratne, Mayantha Dissanayake, and Diana Gamage are currently appointed to Parliament via the SJB’s national list seats.
The SJB’s pledge comes after Sri Lankan actor and politician Ranjan Ramanayake was granted a special pardon today.
Ramanayake was convicted and sentenced to four years over contempt of court charges in January 2021.
Following his conviction, Ramanayake’s parliamentary seat was abolished last year.
However, he was issued a conditional presidential pardon by President Ranil Wickremesinghe today. (NewsWire)
